How to protect against frauds while Looking for job/new business proposals

At times we all look for a change in job or want to explore some business proposal, while doing the same, we also need to protect ourselves against frauds. There could be various red flags, for now below are three which one should look out for, to protect against frauds:

1-Advance payment - Such schemes are aptly called “Advance fee scams” and there are multiple variants, which range from offers of “work from job/business”, “jobs in foreign country”, “balance left in account of a distant relative”, “someone who wants to help people by making donations/charity”, “lottery prizes”.Whatever be the variant/modus operandi, one thing is definite that they want advance payment before providing you the product/service/job/business etc.

2-Unsolicited jobs/business partnership- In the times where for any job there are hundreds of applicants and startups/existing businesses chase venture funds, it’s strange when one gets a “too good to be true” job/investment proposal without even applying for it. This is more suspicious when internet services (skype, what’s app, Linkedin, facebook etc) are used to make such offers. Having said that there could be genuine job/business offers as well, based on your profile on linkedin, job portals etc but check whether job/business being proposed matches your profile, salary being offered is in line with industry practice and whether this involves suspicious job profile or advance payments

3-Type of job/Business -  Such business/jobs basically require you to receive payments in your account or ask you to visit bank/exchange house for collecting payment and then forwarding it to another person after deducting some commission for yourself. Another variant is investment offer wherein you get financial investment and “documentation” is provided indicating availability of funds. Don’t fall for these as usually these are fraudulent payments  and eventually law enforcement agencies would catch the person whose account/ID was used to receive payment.

Above are red flags and does not necessarily means that any job offer/business proposal with above conditions is fraudulent. Would be happy to assist if anyone needs specific inputs.
